Samsung patent hints at a rollable phone with movable camera module

Samsung may be working on another futuristic smartphone concept, as a newly discovered patent reveals a rollable phone design featuring a movable camera module.

According to the patent documents, the device could use a flexible rollable display that expands outward to provide a larger screen experience while maintaining a compact smartphone form factor. The most interesting part of the design is a movable camera system that appears capable of repositioning itself depending on how the device is being used.

The patent illustrations suggest the camera module may slide or rotate internally to optimize photography and video calls in both compact and expanded display modes. This could help Samsung maximize screen space while reducing the need for multiple front-facing camera cutouts.

Samsung has been experimenting with advanced foldable and rollable concepts for several years, including flexible OLED displays, sliding screens, and dual-folding devices. The company is considered one of the leaders in display innovation thanks to its Samsung Display division.

Reports suggest the rollable phone could use ultra-thin flexible OLED technology combined with a motorized expansion mechanism similar to concepts previously shown by brands like Oppo and LG.

While patents do not guarantee commercial products, they often reveal technologies companies are actively researching for future devices. Samsung has not officially confirmed any plans for a rollable smartphone with a movable camera system.

The latest patent highlights how smartphone makers continue exploring new form factors beyond traditional foldables as competition in the premium mobile market intensifies.
