NEW DELHI: Nasscom Foundation, the philanthropy arm of IT body Nasscom, today said it will provide Microsoft Office 2010 software free of cost to NGOs.

To avail of this donation made through BiGTech, NGOs can register free of cost at www.BiGTech.in, Nasscom said in a statement.

Microsoft Office is a suite of products comprising software like Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

BiGTech is the foundation’s technology philanthropy programme and receives brand new software and services free as donations.

It has five donors — Microsoft, Eagle Conferencing, Bytes of Learning, Busy Infotech and Quick Heal (anti-virus).

BiGTech has more than 880 NGOs registered across the country and has made available over Rs 6 crore worth of software donations, including Microsoft Office 2003 and Office 2007, to non-profit organisations, it said.

“At Microsoft, we believe in the transformative power of technology and that cost should not be a barrier to access. Making our software available in association with TechSoup Global and Nasscom Foundation is a step towards reaching out to communities under-served by technology,” Microsoft India Chairman Ravi Venkatesan said.

“By encouraging non-profits to acquire the software through BiGTech, we are reducing piracy and ensuring that they increase their efficiency and effectiveness,” Nasscom Foundation CEO Rufina Fernandes added.
