NEW DELHI: Telecom infrastructure firm Quippo-WTTIL has signed a five-year deal with IBM for an undisclosed amount to provide technical support to overhaul its IT system and manage the hardware, mailing and infrastructure management software applications for the tower company.
This is IBM’s fifth such outsourcing contract in the Indian telecom space. It is already working with Bharti Airtel , Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular and state-owned telco BSNL.
Last year Tata Teleservices merged its mobile tower company, Wireless Tata Tele Info Services (WTTIL), with Quippo, a tower firm promoted by the SREI Group to form Quippo-WTTIL.
Quippo holds 49% stake in the venture while Tata Teleservices holds the balance. The joint venture firm acquired the tower arm of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) in March 2010.
Quippo-WTTIL currently operates about 38,000 towers.
