Beleaguered smartphone maker Research In Motion on Wednesday launched its youth-oriented Curve 9220 in India.

Priced at Rs 10,999, the latest Curve is an affordable low-end smartphone targeted at young consumers as against the enterprise BlackBerry consumers.

The phone itself is quite basic and can disappoint heavy users as there are a number of feature-rich Android smartphones already available in the market that would appeal to the youth more.

But RIM officials are certain it's user interface, BBM advantage and longer battery life will attract the youth to this model.

BlackBerry Curve 9220 features a 2.44-inch (320×240 pixels) TFT display with QWERTY keypad. Other specifications include a 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, WiFi connectivity, expandable memory up to 32GB using a microSD card and a 2.44-inch QVGA display.

RIM, however, does not have any tie-up with any of the telecom providers for bundling the handset with data plans. Focused a lot around ease of use of BBM ( BlackBerry Messenger) which draws youth to BlackBerry phones, RIM also got Bollywood Diva Katrina Kaif for the launch function.
